Alawoona Silo Art
A new landmark in the Mallee

A Silo Art installation at the grain silos in Alawoona aims to honour Alawoona’s history, its strong agricultural foundations, reflecting the enduring relationship between people, land, and farming practices that shaped the town over generations. It also is a celebration of the life and career of Magarey Medallist and Port Adelaide champion footballer, Russell Ebert, a local legend.

Positioned on the key route between Karoonda, Lameroo and Loxton, Alawoona is set to become the next highlight on South Australia’s iconic Silo Art Trail. The project will celebrate the town’s rich farming and railway heritage and honour its most famous son, football legend Russell Ebert captured by renowned silo artist Heesco as Alawoona approaches its centenary in 2027.

Driven by the Alawoona Community Group and Loxton Community Futures, the artwork will add a vibrant new attraction to a district already drawing visitors with features like Lloyd Griffiths’ renowned car collection. With strong support from the silo’s private owner, the installation promises to boost tourism, strengthen local identity, and create a striking new gateway for travellers exploring the Mallee and Riverland districts.

Your financial donation to this project will enable the realisation of this special project in a timely manner.
